How a Middle East mall operator could survey visitors, loyalty members, and tenants on WhatsApp

An illustrative scenario: a company operating several shopping malls in the Gulf uses WhatsApp surveys for visitor-experience feedback started from a QR code, loyalty-member check-ins, event feedback, and tenant pulse surveys, segmented by property.

Illustrative scenario, not a customer story. The business is hypothetical, and no results are implied.

Picture an operator running several large shopping malls across the Gulf, each with hundreds of retail tenants, a busy events calendar, and a loyalty program. Visitor feedback today comes from comment cards and an occasional web survey, and it's hard to compare one property with another.

The operator wants a steady read on the visitor experience (parking, cleanliness, wayfinding, events) for each mall, plus a direct line to its tenants, all through the app visitors and store managers already use.

The surveys, in rollout order

  1. 1. During a visitUtility

    Visitor-experience survey

QR codes at concierge desks, restrooms, and parking exits invite visitors to message the mall. Because the visitor starts the chat, the mall can reply with an interactive survey inside WhatsApp's customer service window, with no template needed for that reply.

  2. 2. After a mall eventUtility

    Event feedback survey

Registered attendees get a one-tap rating of the event they attended, with a follow-up on what to bring back next season.

  3. 3. Each quarterMarketing

    Loyalty-member recommendation survey

A recommend-score survey to opted-in loyalty members, segmented by their home mall so each property sees its own trend.

  4. 4. Twice a yearMarketing

    Tenant pulse survey

Store managers rate footfall support, maintenance response, and marketing support, with an open-ended question for the leasing team.

Utility or Marketing is the template category we'd expect; Meta assigns the final category during review and can re-file a template.

Setting it up

  • Visitor-started chats are the opt-in: someone who scans the QR code and messages the mall has chosen to talk to it, and the survey answers that conversation. Loyalty members are surveyed only if they opted in to WhatsApp messages when they joined.
  • Each mall can run its own WhatsApp Business sender, or the group can use one sender with the property passed as a personalization field, so results split cleanly by mall.
  • Arabic and English versions of each template are approved separately by Meta; signage can offer both.
  • On Pro, CSV personalization carries the member's home mall and tier into every survey, and response analytics compare properties side by side.

What they'd measure

  • Visitor-experience ratings per mall and per touchpoint (parking, restrooms, wayfinding)
  • Event ratings, to decide which events come back
  • Loyalty recommend-score trend by property
  • Tenant satisfaction themes for the leasing and operations teams

Common questions

How can a shopping mall collect visitor feedback on WhatsApp without a customer list?
With a QR code that opens a WhatsApp chat. When a visitor scans it and messages the mall, the mall can answer with an interactive survey inside that conversation, so no prior contact list or template is needed for the reply.
Can a mall group compare WhatsApp survey results across several properties?
Yes. Either run one WhatsApp Business sender per mall, or one shared sender with the property passed in as a personalization field; either way, responses can be segmented and compared by mall.
Do loyalty-member surveys need opt-in on WhatsApp?
Yes. Members must have opted in to receive WhatsApp messages, typically when they join the program, and every survey should honor STOP. A recurring loyalty survey is a Marketing template under Meta's rules.
